My 2026 streaming setup, fully broken down
Every camera, mic, and light I use — plus what I'd skip if I were starting over.
The setup behind a stream can look wildly complicated from the other side of the camera. Mine grew one upgrade at a time, usually after something broke five minutes before going live.
The parts that matter most
The microphone made the biggest difference. A good dynamic mic in the right position beats an expensive camera in a dim room, and it keeps keyboard noise from taking over the stream.
My current essentials are:
- a dynamic microphone on a low-profile arm
- two soft lights, placed slightly above eye level
- a capture card that can survive long sessions
- one reliable control surface for scene changes
What I would skip
I would not buy decorative lighting first. It is fun, but it cannot rescue muddy audio or a camera fighting for exposure. Start with sound, add one soft light, and learn the gear you already own before replacing it.
The best setup is the one that disappears once the stream starts.
